Content introduction:

For English learners, especially English majors, Shakespeare's works cannot and should not be avoided. However, due to its high status in the history of Western literature and its "complex" language, many learners are deterred from his plays and poems. The purpose of this lecture is to help English majors break the "sense of awe" for Shakespeare, find a way to enter the world of Shakespeare's drama and poetry, and then enjoy reading Shakespeare's works.

Chen Xing, Associate Professor of English Department, School of Foreign Languages, Nanjing University, Doctor of English literature, University of Edinburgh, UK. His research direction is British Renaissance literature, focusing on Shakespeare's plays. He is the author of Reconsidering Shakespeare’s “Lateness”: Studies in the Last Plays (Newcastle-upon-Tyne: Cambridge Scholars Publishing, 2015) and has published several papers in Literary Compass, Foreign Literature Review, Foreign Literature, Contemporary Foreign Literature, etc. He has presided over the youth project "Historical Writing in Shakespeare's Late Plays" sponsored by Jiangsu Social Science Fund, and "Research on Shakespeare's Language View" by National Social Science Fund.
