“Young and Middle-aged Teachers’ Lecture Competition” was held by the English Department of School of Languages and Literatures on April 10th in Room 904 of the Teachers’ Teaching Development Center of Lanzhou University to further improve teachers’ professionalism and promote exchanges of learning.
The competition was presided over by Professor Shi Juhong, head of the English Department, with Vice President Chen Jianlin, Professor Li Zonghong, Professor Fan Linzhou, Professor Jiang Xiangya and Ms. Lu Bo as judges and 9 young and middle-aged teachers as participants.
The competition is a 20-minute lecture, including a 5-minute overview and a 15-minute demo class, in which the participants are required to present their overall teaching design of the text and choose one specific section to demonstrate, focusing on comprehensive courses, skills courses and specialized courses, including basic English, English writing, literature appreciation, introduction to linguistics, interpretation skills and practice, and intercultural communication.
Ms. Chen Xuhong and Ms. Gao Xiangjing finally tied for the Grand Prize. The other seven teachers won the first and second prizes respectively. The competition was concluded by a summary and commentary from Dean Zhu Gang ,who fully affirmed the professionalism and teaching level of the participating teachers, making pertinent suggestions on the speed of the lectures and feedback of the assignments, and hoping that the young and middle-aged teachers of the English Department would further cultivate and master the skills of approachable lectures.
