On June 7-8, eighteen students and two faculty members from Hezuo Tibetan Middle School (HZMS) – a practice base partner of Lanzhou University’s (LZU) School of Foreign Languages and Literatures (SFLL) – participated in a research visit for the “Virtual Teaching & Research Program on English Acquisition Reform.” Organized by the latter, the program aims to enhance participants’ understanding of LZU and foster academic enthusiasm.

June 7: The visiting group were showed around key facilities at LZU’s Chengguan Campus including Mingdao Building, the University History Museum, Electron Microscopy Center, and the University Library. Zhu Gang, Dean of SFLL, later hosted an exchange session where he warmly greeted attendees in Tibetan. Sharing personal academic experiences from his youth, Zhu encouraged students to make the most of their formative years and strive to become contributing members of society.

June 8: The delegation visited LZU’s Yuzhong Campus. At Kunlun Hall, following a brief introduction, students freely explored functional zones including reading areas, study spaces, and digital services, immersing themselves in the academic atmosphere of the university library. The group commemorated their visit with a group photo before Kunlun Hall, capturing this special moment.

At the university museum, guided by volunteer docents, students toured the History Exhibition Hall and the Hall of Ancient Elephant of the Yellow River. These exhibits illustrated LZU’s institutional development and its pivotal role in advancing higher education across western China.

Housing diverse natural and cultural collections, the Biological Specimens Hall and Historical Artifacts Hall aroused students’ keen interest. Particularly noteworthy was the Fossil Hall, where extensive rare specimens highlighted the university’s distinctive strengths in scientific research.

Subsequent Activities: The delegation proceeded to Qinling Building, experiencing the atmosphere of this university. Reflecting themselves on the visit, participants emphasized how exposure to LZU’s culture provided valuable insights into this top-tier university ethos guiding the youth development. Many articulated their determination to study harder to gain admission to the institutions of higher education.

The visit enhanced HZMS participants’ understanding of LZU while strengthening educational collaboration between both institutions.

As a long-standing practice base partner of LZU’s SFLL, HZMS has conducted over a dozen joint initiatives—including research projects, academic visits, internships, and collaborative studies—yielding substantial outcomes. Both institutions will sustain their engagement to creating pathways to academic aspirations for students.
