To advance graduate education reform and benchmark against leading national institutions, a delegation from the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, led by Zhang Hongli, Associate Dean of the school, undertook a targeted research trip to Xi’an on June 5th. The team focused on exploring talent cultivation, curriculum design, and disciplinary development. Accompanying Dean Zhang were He Min (Associate Director of MTI Center), Associate Professor Gao Yu, and faculty members Wang Tianju, Ma Yilin, Kong Xinke, and Ma Qifeng.

The delegation first visited the School of Translation Studies at Xi’an International Studies University (XISU), where they explored practice-oriented initiatives such as “Real-World Project-Based Learning” and “localized internships”, which leverage platforms like the Collaborative Innovation Center for the Silk Road Language Services and news translation/editing to enhance students’ practical skills. Discussions centered on adapting translator training to the AI era and pedagogical innovations.

A subsequent meeting with XISU’s Russian Department highlighted curriculum design, internship management, and employment support strategies, with faculty exchanging views on disciplinary advancement and international collaborations.

In the afternoon, the team proceeded to Xi’an Jiaotong University’s (XJTU) School of Foreign Studies. XJTU highlighted graduate education innovations including industry mentorship programs, structured internship oversight, and faculty assessment systems. The delegation recognized its cultivation of interdisciplinary translation talent through industry-academia collaboration. Both institutions agreed to create regular exchange frameworks for sustained cooperation.

The research visits, together with in-depth exchanges, offer insights to enhancing graduate programs by integrating industry projects, practical training with local/global initiatives, and improved mentorship. School aims to develop adaptable interdisciplinary professionals, demonstrating commitment to educational advancement and alignment with national strategic priorities.
