On September 23, SFLL hosted a “College English” curriculum workshop, co-led by its Teacher Development Center and Public English Teaching Center. Deputy Director Long Fengxia presided, with Fudan University’s Professor Wu Xiaozhen (chief editor of the new textbook series) delivering a keynote. Attendees included Vice Dean Ding Xuhui, 24 first-year course instructors, and Gao Xiangjing,Director of SFLL Teacher Development Center.

Wu Xiaozhen outlined the textbook’s framework, design philosophy, and teaching cases, analyzing trends in China’s college English education and innovations in the second edition of New Progressive College English. She stressed interdisciplinary/cross-cultural integration, Chinese cultural themes, and moral education goals. The session also explored blended teaching reforms, AI applications, and pedagogical research, offering fresh insights for curriculum and assessment reforms. Faculty present joined Prof. Wu in the heated exchange on topics like AI tools in classroom activities and homework design.
In group discussions, teaching teams deliberated on textbook implementation, semester strategies, and optimizing co-teaching with international instructors. Ding and Long joined all groups, addressing questions in real time.

The workshop strengthened faculty’s understanding of textbook design, advanced teaching reforms, and boosted AI literacy and cross-cultural competency—aligning with the university’s globalization and talent development goals.
