On December 4, Li Ling’e, translator at Xinjiang Jialetong Translation Services Co., Ltd. and a 2005 alumna of the Russian program at the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, was invited to attend the School’s Academic Forum. She delivered an online lecture titled “From Practice to Proficiency: Accumulated Experience and Common Pitfalls in Translation”. Nearly 60 faculty members and students attended the event both online and offline, with Wang Tianju from the Russian Department chairing the session.

Drawing on her professional experience as a Russian translator for Xinjiang Jian Investment and Development Co., Ltd., and the Russian Longxing subsidiary of Zijin Mining Group, Li Ling’e shared her career development journey from “deepening language learning” to “achieving integrated application”. She offered a systematic and practical overview of the full translation workflow, including preparation before translation, processing during translation, and proofreading afterward. She also focused on key aspects of interpreting, emphasizing accurate understanding of context, efficient information delivery, and proper professional etiquette. In light of current trends in the translation industry, she discussed the reasonable use of artificial intelligence technologies and how translators can adapt themselves to industry changes to achieve continuous self-improvement. Li Ling’e further analyzed employment prospects in the translation field, encouraging students to strengthen their language foundation, expand their professional knowledge, and cultivate practical skills to build a solid base for future career development.

Following the lecture, Li Ling’e engaged in an in-depth discussion with participants, patiently addressing students’ questions about industry trends, academic challenges, and long-term career planning.
