From December 5 to 6, the Youth Participation in Global Governance: Possibilities and Contributions forum for university students was held on Zijingang Campus, Zhejiang University. The event was hosted by Zhejiang University and brought together youth representatives from more than twenty universities, including Zhejiang University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, and Lanzhou University. Five students from the Interdisciplinary Innovation Class in International Organizations at the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures---Chen Xinran, Jia Yixuan, Li Hanlin, Liu Ziduan, and Wang Siyuan---were invited to the event, led by Liu Jing as the faculty advisor .

At the forum, participants took part in a global governance workshop organized by the hosts and listened to reports delivered by officials from international organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), as well as experts in global governance education and research from universities including the China Foreign Affairs University.
Liu Ziduan delivered a keynote speech titled “From Local Experience to Global Wisdom: The Starting Point of Youth in Global Governance”. Drawing on field teaching practice organized by the School of Foreign Languages and Literatures, specifically, visits to the thorium molten salt reactor project in Wuwei, Gansu, and the Babu Sand Control Station in Minqin, Liu introduced the independent innovation achievements of the thorium molten salt reactor in the clean energy sector. She also highlighted the “grass grid + photovoltaic panel” sand control model co-developed by Lanzhou University research teams and local sand control stations, demonstrating how Chinese innovation aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development initiatives and contributes to global governance with Chinese insights.

The forum provided a high-level platform for university students aspiring to the engagement in global governance work. The participation of the faculty and students from Lanzhou University showcased their commitment to contributing to the world from a base in northwest China, and highlighted the positive progress of Lanzhou University in cultivating talent for international organizations.
